Recognizing that there is no universal approach to dealing with this diagnosis, we acknowledge that circumstances and experiences vary for each individual affected by Parkinson’s, as well as their care partners, family members, and friends.
The journey can be overwhelming, evoking emotions such as anger, confusion, numbness, or sadness. It’s important to understand that these feelings are normal, and you are not alone. Living well with Parkinson’s disease necessitates both knowledge and support. Given that Parkinson’s is a progressive disease with evolving challenges, your support needs will also change over time. Life At Home is able to make the journey more manageable and provide support in a multitude of ways:
Exercise is undeniably crucial for managing and potentially reversing the symptoms of Parkinson’s. It has been substantiated that regular physical activity offers numerous benefits to individuals with Parkinson’s, including a decreased risk of falls and injuries, enhanced cognitive and motor function, and alleviation of non-motor symptoms like depression, fatigue, and insomnia. Moreover, exercise has demonstrated the ability to safeguard neurons in the brain from deterioration, fostering the development of new neural pathways. This, in turn, improves cognitive processing and has the potential to slow or even reverse the progression of Parkinson’s disease.
In line with recommendations from Parkinson’s Canada, it is advised that individuals with Parkinson’s engage in aerobic exercise three days per week and incorporate strength training on 2-3 non-consecutive days, with each session lasting at least 30 minutes. Additionally, sustained stretching, along with the integration of balance, agility, and multitasking exercises into daily life, is encouraged for individuals with Parkinson’s to promote overall well-being and symptom management.

Highly recommend Life At Home! Quick to reply and kind staff. We had the chance to ask questions during our in-home assessment and they took the time to really understand what we needed for my Father and involved us in every step. As a result of diagnoses of Myasthenia Gravis and Parkinson’s disorders, My wife, Charlotte, has not been able to get around without the use of wheelchair for well over a year. She requires assistance for transfers from bed to a reclining chair in our living room and for showers or to attend appointments or personal outings such as to visit family.
