While the cost savings may seem like a good idea up front you essentially become an employer and as such you are responsible for complying with all ESA legalities including remitting taxes, contributing to EI, CPP, vacation pay out, STAT pay, issuing ROEs and providing insurance and WSIB coverage. Life At Home has an extensive hiring process where we conduct background checks, vulnerable sector checks, reference checks and mandate various certifications. Our employees are insured for their protection as well as yours and with a vast pool of certified employees we can ensure that your loved one/s will never have a gap in care due to sick calls or vacation absences. Working with Life At Home means that families can minimize their workload, minimize gaps in care, mitigate risks and allow them to spend your time with their loved one/s as a family rather than an employer.
While you do have to sign a service agreement that outlines our rates, billing and cancellation policies and services being offered you are not bound to our services for a defined period of time. In emergency situations such as hospitalization, we ask that you notify us as soon as possible or we can continue care in the hospital if needed. Outside of emergency situations we require 24 hours notice for cancellations. If less than 24 hours notice is given the shift will be billed at 100% of the scheduled visit fee. Life At Home can waive the cancellation fee as they see fit.
We provide care up to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 52 weeks a year. We do have a shift minimum of 3 hours but on occasion, depending on staff availability, we may be able to accommodate shorter shifts. As part of our customized care plan, you are in complete control of your schedule, and we can work with whatever time frames are needed for care. As needs change so can the schedule and we can discuss increasing or decreasing hours at any point during our service offerings.

Admittedly we don’t always get it right the first time. Should you find that the caregiver we assigned is not a good match you simply need to let us know and we will go back to the drawing board. We have a vast pool of highly trained and competent caregivers to choose from and we would be happy to discretely replace your current caregiver.
Yes! All Life At Home employees are covered under WSIB which protects the homeowner or facility from any liability should an injury occur while on the job.
At Life At Home we strive for continuity and understand the importance of building that relationship with someone, especially when allowing them into your home (your safe space.) We strive for continuity for every client and will always try to secure the same caregiver for the durations of services with us. Should a book off occur, we always offer an equally competent replacement which our clients have the right to accept or decline.

My mom received around the clock care from Life At Home for a little over a year before she passed away. She had memory issues (dementia) that progressed very fast but it was her wish after my father's passing to remain in their condo. Living 5 hours away, it was hard to know if she was truly being taken care of by the previous agency we used. Life At Home's consultation process was a breeze, after the assessment I knew she would be in great hands. The caregivers chosen for my mom were wonderful. As a result of diagnoses of Myasthenia Gravis and Parkinson’s disorders, My wife, Charlotte, has not been able to get around without the use of wheelchair for well over a year. She requires assistance for transfers from bed to a reclining chair in our living room and for showers or to attend appointments or personal outings such as to visit family.
